About Julianna

Graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Kean University in 2015. Soon I was working in Accounts Payables for a logistic company until I started my professional career working as a Grant Accountant at Rutgers University in 2017. I work primarily in submitting financial reports, auditing, and helping Principal Investigators in Rutgers receive their funding for their research. In 2018 I worked on a project to build a dog park in my community of Elizabeth; I started to learn more in-depth about politics and public administration. At the time, the nearest dog park in Elizabeth was almost a 30-45 minute drive, and I believed that the city of Elizabeth, the 4th largest in NJ, should have a dog park nearby. I worked with council members and spoke to county commissioners about the possibility of building one. I worked on a petition to present to the council that generated over 2,000 signatures in days. It was my first experience talking to people about community projects and meeting dozens of people who wanted to be a part of them. By November of 2018, a new county dog park was built in the city at Warinanco Park. It was then that I discovered that I had a passion for community building and advocating for services and programs for people of all kinds. Since that project, I worked on several drives for I Support the Girls, where I collected over 1,200 bras for homeless women and over 5,000 menstrual items for underprivileged girls/ women. In 2019 I joined a group of like-minded individuals, and together we created a festival for kids in Elizabeth that focuses on different aspects of creativity, art, science, and sports. I also joined several organizations in Elizabeth; marketing for NAACP, starting an animal rescue and functioning as the treasurer, joining the Elizabeth Parents and Student Care Group to advocate for students, and helping organize several events (and marches) for issues affecting the residents of Elizabeth.

In 2019, in the Master of Public Administration program at Rutgers; I decided to pursue this degree because it aligned with my interest and future goals. One day, my goal is to become a Business Administrator or Finance Director of a City, combining my knowledge, experience, and degrees in Accounting and Public Administration. I see how this degree would help me look for a change in my career. I want to be part of a team to solve various issues within my unit to better serve the public.
